History

The South City Baptist Church originally started about 1985 as a mission from the Otumoetai Baptist Church to the Greerton area of Tauranga. It was first named the Greerton Community Baptist Church. As a community church it ran outreach programmes through the Asher Trust. The church has met in rented buildings in several locations in Greerton area, untill moving to Pyes Pa in 2006. The church then changed it's name to South City Baptist Church.

Pastors Stephen & Carena Tyrrell

Stephen and Carena have been pastoring the South City Baptist Church since May 2000 on a part time basis. Stephen also teaches adult education classes on computing at the Tauranga Girl's College and works for firms as a business consultant.
Stephen and Carena lived in their childhood years in Te Awamutu where they met and married in 1975. They have also had a short term pastorate at Whitianga in the Coromandel Peninsula and Pastored the Doubtless Bay Baptist Church for 4 years. They went on to establish the Gonville Baptist Church in Wanganui before moving to Tauranga.
